Provision
Charnwood’s ‘Outstanding’ inclusive nursery at Heaton Moor caters for children aged 3-4 years with a small number of places for Children approaching 3. We operate during term time only. We generally follow the term dates of Stockport Local Authority matching with local primary schools with occasional minor differences . During holiday periods we arrange ‘Play Days’ for families of children with SEND and also aim to hold Holiday Clubs in some of the longer holidays.
Ethos
Charnwood is a Charitable Trust and our ethos is based on Christian values upheld by all staff regardless of their own beliefs. All children are valued for their uniqueness, potential and are celebrated for what they can do and achieve. The family is at the centre of our work and we offer support to each family on an individual basis in whatever way we can. We have an in-house Family Support Worker and in addition we access the services of Start Well.
Governance
Our Trust is lead by a Board of Trustees who are volunteers dedicated to ensuring that we comply with all legislation and business requirements whilst maintaining the strong ethos of supporting the Children and their families in our community. The Trustees delegate the day to day running of the nursery to the Head of Education and Senior Leadership Team who are on site each day.
Curriculum and Learning
Charnwood follows the Early Years Statutory Framework and Development Matters document which lay out the expectations of learning and development, safeguarding and health and safety. We have well resourced, continuous provision on each nursery floor which allows children to access learning via a wide range of activities at their own level with challenge provided to enhance their skills. Highly qualified staff support the children’s learning by observing, planning and assessing their progress on a regular basis. This is shared in a variety of ways with parents to enable parents to input into their own child’s development.
Outdoor Learning
Playing outdoors is a key part of children’s learning. The outdoor area has been extensively developed over the last few years to provide a wide range of accessible activities to support physical development, exploration, curiosity, experimentation and active learning. Three purpose built lodges have created indoor spaces within the outdoors which offer quiet, warm learning spaces.
