What is it?
Opportunity groups are held every afternoon from 1.30 – 3.20 pm
for children from birth to 3 years and their parents / carers. These
groups provide an opportunity for parents or carers to be involved in
the development of their children through play, music and social
interaction. The atmosphere is relaxed and informal. All the facilities
of the downstairs nursery and outdoor area are available for free play
throughout the afternoon, and mainstream, special education and family
support staff are available to work with parents, support and advise.
Refreshments are provided for parents and carers in the Toy Library
during the sessions.
Towards the end of the afternoon some simple structure is introduced in the form of music sessions and a taste experience.
Admission to Opportunity Group
There is a waiting list for the Opportunity Groups. Names can be added
to the waiting list by contacting reception, and parents will then be
informed as soon as a vacancy arises.
Children
with special needs are admitted without going on the waiting list to
ensure that they receive the necessary support and information as early
as possible.
Charges
There is a small charge per family for each afternoon attendance and
this includes refreshments or children’s snacks. Children with
special needs are given free places and transport can be arranged if
required.
